Susan Simone Kang



Susan Simone Kang is the Director of Graduate Legal Education and International Programs at Boston College Law School, with over 12 years in the academy and an additional 9 years in private practice. She is a senior member of the International Engagement team overseeing the strategic global vision for Boston College Law School, and is a contributing member of the International Engagement team of the University.

At the Law School, Director Simone Kang manages the International Visiting Scholars Program, the LL.M. Master of Laws Program and international law student exchange relationships, including JD exchange abroad. Director Simone Kang is also the Co-Director of the BC Law Insights: Foundations of U.S. Law and Practice, and teaches the course Introduction to the United States Legal System at Boston College Law School. Professor Simone Kang has also taught US tort law at Deusto Law School, Bilbao Spain, and guest lectured at Bocconi University in Milan in international treaty law, in US constitutional law, at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia and the Universidad Católica de Argentina in Buenos Aires, at the Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil, on rule of law and access to justice, and the Universidad de San Pablo en Arequipa, in Peru, on the US common law system, all in the language of instruction at the host school, or in English, upon request. Professor Simone Kang has also been especially focused in Uzbekistan, participating in numerous on-line and in person programs at the Tashkent State University of Law, which has been a professionally enriching experience.

During the pandemic summer of 2020, Director Simone Kang has been teaching free online webinars in English/Portuguese and English /Spanish in two Series: One with Professor Pedro Lenza of Brazil, on Constitutional Law, which attracted over 6,000 participants over 9 sessions, and the other with Professor Daniela Urosa, of Venezuela, to thousands through “Lex Latinx en Verano” over 5 sessions. In addition, the Insights Program, in collaboration with the Provost’s Office of Boston College has engaged in rich certificate programming with the Centro de Arbitraje y Mediación de Santiago, Chile and the University of Muenster, Germany.

Director Simone Kang is a graduate of Cornell Law School, JD ’99 with a specialization in International Legal Affairs, where she was the Lead Symposium Editor for the International Law Journal, and she has an LLM in International Law ‘09 from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She was in private practice for over nine years in Boston based international and regional law firms, focusing on the fields of mergers and acquisitions, international corporate finance and multijurisdictional bankruptcies. Director Simone Kang is also a certified mediator, and has volunteered in Boston area district courts. In 2017, Director Kang co-authored Resolution 10b of the American Bar Association and its related report on the detention of judges and prosecutors under the U.N.’s ICCPR and the European Convention on Human Rights. In 2019, Director Simone Kang supervised a brief in Spanish before the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights establishing protection from revictimization in the investigative process for survivors of sexually-based violence among vulnerable populations.

Director Kang is a member of the New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut bars and speaks Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, English (as a second language) and is learning Turkish. She is a member of the ABA, the American Society of International Law and the Boston Bar Association.
